OCRA — Occupational Repetitive Action Index

Occupational Repetitive Action Index

Overview

The OCRA Index is an internationally recognised ergonomic assessment method — used to quantify the risk of upper limb work -related musculoskeletal disorders arising from repetitive tasks involving the upper limbs. The OCRA method calculates the ratio betwe en the actual number of technical actions performed per shift and the recommended number — accounting for recovery time, frequency of actions, force, awkward postures, and additional risk factors such as vibration and contact stress. An OCRA index below 2. 2 indicates acceptable risk — between 2.2 and 3.5 borderline — and above 3.5 indicates present risk requiring intervention. The OCRA Checklist provides a simplified version of the full OCRA Index for use in workplace screening.
