Moore-Garg Strain Index
Moore-Garg Revised Strain Index
Overview
The Moore-Garg Strain Index — also known as the Revised Strain Index — is an ergonomic risk assessment tool used to qu antify the risk of developing distal upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders from repetitive hand and wrist intensive tasks. The tool evaluates six task variables — intensity of exertion, duration of exertion per cycle, exertions per minute, hand and wri st posture, speed of work, and duration of task per day — each scored and combined into a composite Strain Index score. A Strain Index score above five is generally considered hazardous for most workers — and scores increase with the severity of each risk factor.
