HAV — Hand-Arm Vibration Assessment
Hand-Arm Vibration Assessment
Overview
Hand-Arm Vibration assessment is the measurement and evaluation of vibration transmitted from vibrating tools and equipment through the hands and arms to the worker — assessing the risk of developing hand -arm vibration syndrome, a serious and irreversible condition that causes damage to blood vessels, nerve s, and joints of the hand, wrist, and arm. The assessment involves measuring vibration magnitude — expressed in metres per second squared — using calibrated accelerometers attached to the tool or handle, and calculating the daily vibration exposure — A(8) — by combining vibration magnitude with daily exposure duration. Results are compared against the Exposure Action Value and Exposure Limit Value defined in ISO 5349 and applicable national regulations.
