KIM — Key Indicator Method
Key Indicator Method for Manual Handling Operations
Overview
The Key Indicator Method is a set of ergonomic assessment tools used for evaluating the risk of musculoskeletal disorders associated with manual handling operations. KIM comprises separa te modules for lifting, holding and carrying — KIM-LHC — pushing and pulling — KIM-PP — and manual handling with whole body forces — KIM-MHO — each using a simple scoring system based on key risk indicators including load weight, body posture, working cond itions, and exposure duration. KIM is widely used in Germany and internationally as a practical, rapid assessment tool that can be applied by trained non-specialists without requiring detailed biomechanical knowledge.
