Noise Dosimetry
Occupational Noise Exposure — Personal Noise Dosimetry
Overview
Noise dosimetry is the personal measurement of occupational noise exposure — using a calibrated noise dosimeter worn by the worker throughout their shift to continuously measure and integrate the noise levels experienced across all tasks and environments e ncountered during the working day. The result is expressed as a daily noise exposure level — LEX,8h — in decibels A -weighted, which represents the equivalent continuous noise level over an eight-hour working day. This value is compared against occupational exposure limits — in India governed by the Factories Act and IS 3483 — with Exposure Action Values and Exposure Limit Values triggering specific employer obligations including hearing protection provision, noise control, and audiometric health surveillanc e.
