Fatigue Risk Management System — FRMS
Fatigue Risk Management System
Overview
A Fatigue Risk Management System is a structured, data -driven approach to identifying, assessing, and controlling the risks arising from worker fatigue — recognising that fatigue is a significant occupational hazard that impairs cognitive function, slows r eaction time, increases error rates, and contributes to workplace accidents, particularly in safety -critical roles and industries with shift work, extended hours, or physically demanding tasks. FRMS frameworks — developed by organisations including the Int ernational Civil Aviation Organisation, rail safety regulators, and occupational health bodies — combine biomathematical fatigue modelling, worker fatigue reporting systems, scheduling controls, and workplace monitoring to manage fatigue risk systematicall y rather than reactively.
