A Programme Effectiveness Evaluation is a periodic, structured assessment of whether an organ isation's ergonomics programme is achieving its intended objectives — examining the impact of ergonomics interventions on musculoskeletal injury rates, worker -reported discomfort, absence levels, workstation compliance, and training coverage, and assessing the quality and consistency of programme delivery against the programme design. An ergonomics programme that is not periodically evaluated for effectiveness is one that may be consuming resources without delivering commensurate benefit — and one that cann ot make the evidence -based improvements needed to justify continued investment.
The evaluation combines quantitative data analysis — comparing injury and absence trends before and after programme interventions — with qualitative assessment of programme delivery, worker experience, and management engagement. Worker surveys, manager int erviews, observation of training delivery, and review of assessment and risk control plan records are all used to build a comprehensive picture of programme performance.
Findings are presented in a programme effectiveness report with specific, actionable r ecommendations for improvement. Programme Effectiveness Evaluations give organisations the honest assessment of their ergonomics investment that internal reporting alone cannot provide — because they are conducted independently, use validated methods, and are designed to identify problems as well as successes. They are the mechanism through which ergonomics programmes improve over time — and the evidence base that makes the case for continued and increased investment to leadership, investors, and occupation al health stakeholders.
