Posture & Movement Analysis — RULA/REBA

What is Posture & Movement Analysis — RULA/REBA?

Posture and Movement Analysis is a systematic evaluation of the body positions a worker adopts during their tasks — assessing the angles, forces, and durations involved in their posture and movement to identify the risk of developing musculoskeletal disord ers. Posture is one of the most significant ergonomic risk factors in both office and industrial environments — sustained awkward postures, repeated movements, and static loading of muscles and joints accumulate into injury over time, often without the wor ker being aware of the risk building up.

The analysis uses two internationally validated assessment tools — RULA, Rapid Upper Limb Assessment, which focuses on upper body posture including the neck, trunk, and upper limbs — and REBA, Rapid Entire Body Asse ssment, which evaluates whole body posture for tasks involving unpredictable or dynamic working positions. Both tools produce a numerical risk score that guides the urgency and nature of corrective action — from immediate redesign to monitoring and review.

Postural risk is invisible until it becomes injury. Workers who spend hours in sustained or repetitive postures — whether at a desk, on a production line, or in a distribution centre — accumulate musculoskeletal damage that manifests as chronic pain, redu ced range of motion, and eventually the inability to perform their work. Posture and Movement Analysis identifies this risk before it becomes injury — giving organisations the evidence they need to act.
