A Post -Renovation Ergonomics Review is an ergonomic assessment conducted after a workplace has undergone renovation, refurbishment, or reconfiguration — evaluating whether the new layout, furniture, equipment, lighting, and environmental conditions meet er gonomic requirements and whether the renovation has introduced any new ergonomic risk factors that were not present before. Workplace renovations frequently involve changes to workstation layouts, furniture specifications, lighting designs, and HVAC system s — all of which affect ergonomic conditions — and the ergonomic implications of these changes are often not considered during the renovation design and specification process.
The review examines the post -renovation workstation configurations, furniture ad justability, workstation dimensions, lighting levels, noise conditions, and thermal environment — comparing conditions against ergonomic benchmarks and identifying any aspects of the renovation that have created or increased ergonomic risk. Where new risks are identified, recommendations are provided for remediation — which is significantly easier and less expensive to implement in the early stages after renovation than after workers have adapted to and accepted poor conditions.
Post -Renovation Reviews are a straightforward and highly cost -effective safeguard — because they catch ergonomic problems at the point where they are easiest and cheapest to fix, before workers have been exposed to the risk for an extended period and before musculoskeletal symptoms b egin to emerge. For facilities managers and HR teams overseeing workplace renovation projects, a post - renovation ergonomics review is the assurance that the investment made in improving the workplace has not inadvertently introduced new ergonomic risk.
