An Annual Ergonomics Audit is a comprehensive, independent review of an organisation's e rgonomic conditions, management systems, and programme performance — conducted once a year to provide management with a complete picture of where the organisation stands, what has improved since the previous audit, and what requires further attention. Unli ke periodic reviews which focus on specific workstations or interventions, an annual audit takes a whole -organisation view — examining physical conditions across all departments, reviewing the ergonomics management system, and assessing the organisation's overall ergonomics performance against defined targets and benchmarks.
The audit combines physical workstation assessments, environmental monitoring, review of injury and absence data, worker interviews, and an evaluation of the ergonomics management syste m — covering policy, training records, risk control plan status, and the governance arrangements for ergonomics within the organisation. Findings are presented in a formal annual ergonomics audit report — structured to provide management, safety committees , and boards with the information they need to make informed decisions about ergonomics investment and programme direction.
The Annual Ergonomics Audit is the cornerstone of a mature ergonomics management system — providing the annual governance cycle that keeps management accountable, the evidence base that justifies continued investment, and the independent verification of ergonomic performance that investors, insurers, and regulators increasingly require. Organisations that conduct annual ergonomics audi ts consistently outperform those that do not — in injury rates, absence levels, and employee satisfaction.
