An Accessibility Assessment evaluates the extent to which a workplace — its physical spaces, workstations, equipm ent, facilities, and processes — can be safely and comfortably used by employees with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, or other functional limitations. Accessibility is not only a matter of legal compliance and social responsibility — it is a pr actical ergonomics challenge that determines whether an organisation can genuinely include all of its people in its workforce and benefit fully from their capabilities.
The assessment examines entry and circulation routes, workstation adjustability, reach distances, control layout, signage, sanitary facilities, emergency egress, and the availability of assistive equipment — evaluated against the requirements of applicable Indian Standards including IS 9457, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, and universal design principles. Workstation -specific assessments are conducted for employees with identified functional limitations — with tailored recommendations for adjustments, assistive technology, or workplace modifications.
In India, inclusion of d ifferently -abled employees is both a regulatory requirement and an increasingly visible ESG commitment — and organisations that invest in genuine accessibility consistently report improvements in employee engagement, retention, and organisational culture. An Accessibility Assessment provides the honest, evidence -based picture of where an organisation currently stands — and what it needs to do to become genuinely inclusive.
