Legal Gap Assessment

What is a Legal Gap Assessment?

A Legal Gap Assessment is a focused evaluation of the difference between an organisation's current compliance practices and the requirements of applicable laws, regulations, and statutory obligations — identifying specific areas where the organisation is non-compliant, partially compliant, or at risk of future non-compliance. Unlike a full compliance audit, a legal gap assessment is typically faster and more targeted — focusing on identifying the most significant gaps and prioritising corrective actions based on legal risk, regulatory scrutiny, and operational impact.

It provides management with a clear, prioritised picture of where compliance action is most urgently needed. It is particularly useful as a first step for organisations entering a new regulatory environment, expanding into new geographies, changing their operations in ways that attract new regulatory obligations, or preparing for investor due diligence or regulatory inspection.
