Hazardous Waste Authorization — CPCB & SPCB

Licensing & Header

What is a Hazardous Waste Authorization — CPCB & SPCB?

Facilities that generate, store, transport, treat, or dispose of hazardous wastes in India are required to obtain authorisation from the Central Pollution Control Board or the relevant State Pollution Control Board — under the Hazardous and Other Wastes Management and Transboundary Movement Rules. Operating without valid hazardous waste authorisation is a serious regulatory violation with significant legal consequences.

Hazardous waste authorisation covers the full lifecycle of hazardous waste management at the facility — specifying the types and quantities of hazardous wastes that may be generated, the storage standards that must be met, the approved disposal routes, the recordkeeping and reporting requirements, and the conditions under which waste may be transferred to authorised recyclers, co- processors, or disposal facilities. EGSS provides comprehensive hazardous waste authorisation support — from initial application preparation and categorisation of wastes through authority liaison, condition compliance management, and periodic renewal — ensuring that facilities have valid authorisations in place and that their hazardous waste management practices meet the requirements of the Rules.
