Electrical Preventive Maintenance (EPM) Program

What is a Electrical Preventive Maintenance (EPM) Program?
An Electrical Preventive Maintenance Programme is a structured, scheduled programme of inspections, testing, cleaning, tightening, and condition monitoring activities carried out on electrical systems and equipment — with the objective of preventing failures, extending equipment life, maintaining system reliability, and ensuring ongoing electrical safety. An effective EPM programme covers all electrical assets — from high voltage switchgear and transformers through low voltage distribution boards, motors, UPS systems, and emergency power equipment — with maintenance activities scheduled based on manufacturer recommendations, regulatory requirements, equipment criticality, and operating environment.
It includes visual inspections, insulation resistance testing, contact resistance testing, thermography, and functional testing of protective devices. EGSS designs and manages EPM programmes tailored to the specific electrical infrastructure of each facility — providing maintenance schedules, inspection checklists, test records, and programme management support to ensure that electrical systems are maintained to the required standard and that maintenance records are available for regulatory and insurance purposes.
