True Zero Waste Certification

What is a True Zero Waste Certification?

True Zero Waste Certification is an internationally recognised certification that verifies an organisation's achievement of defined waste diversion rates — typically 90% or above — from landfill and incineration. It provides independent, third-party verification that an organisation's waste management practices are consistent with zero waste principles, which prioritise waste prevention, reuse, recycling, and recovery over disposal.

Achieving True Zero Waste certification requires a thorough understanding of all waste streams generated by the facility, implementation of waste segregation and diversion programmes, engagement with recyclers and waste processors, measurement and verification of diversion rates, and documentation of waste management practices to the standard required by the certifying body. It is pursued by manufacturing companies, consumer goods producers, corporate campuses, and hospitality facilities seeking to demonstrate leadership on circular economy and waste reduction — and is increasingly valued by institutional investors, sustainability indices, and ESG rating agencies as a credible, third-party verified indicator of environmental performance.
