What is a Supplier ESG Assessment & Supply Chain ESG Audit?

A Supplier ESG Assessment is a structured evaluation of a supplier's environmental, social, and governance performance — examining their ESG policies, practices, management systems, and compliance with applicable standards and the buyer's supply chain ESG requirements. It provides organisations with a clear picture of the ESG risks present in their supply chain and the actions needed to address them.

A Supply Chain ESG Audit goes further — conducting on-site verification of supplier ESG performance across key parameters including labour standards, health and safety, environmental compliance, and business ethics. It is used to verify the accuracy of supplier self-assessments, identify non-conformances, and provide the evidence base for supplier development or disqualification decisions. Both are increasingly required by multinational buyers, institutional investors, and ESG-focused organisations that need to demonstrate responsible sourcing and supply chain due diligence — and are particularly relevant for organisations with complex, multi-tier supply chains in high-risk sectors and geographies.
