What is a Human Rights Compliance Review?

A Human Rights Compliance Review is an assessment of an organisation's practices and policies against applicable international human rights standards — examining whether the organisation is meeting its responsibility to respect human rights across its own operations and, where relevant, its supply chain and business relationships. The review examines key human rights risk areas including forced and compulsory labour, child labour, freedom of association, discrimination, workplace safety, land and livelihood rights, community rights, and the rights of vulnerable groups — evaluated against the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, applicable ILO conventions, and other relevant international standards.

It is used as a baseline assessment before undertaking formal human rights due diligence, as a component of ESG due diligence for investment and financing decisions, and as a standalone review for organisations seeking to understand and improve their human rights performance ahead of investor or supply chain scrutiny.
