What is a ESG Social Performance Monitoring?

ESG Social Performance Monitoring is the ongoing process of tracking, measuring, and reporting on an organisation's social performance indicators — providing management, investors, and other stakeholders with a continuous, data-driven picture of how the organisation is performing against its social commitments, targets, and obligations. Monitoring covers a defined set of social performance indicators — aligned with the reporting requirements of applicable frameworks such as GRI, BRSR, IFC Performance Standards, or investor- specific requirements — including workforce metrics, labour standards compliance, community relations indicators, health and safety performance, and social investment data.

It involves establishing data collection systems, defining reporting frequencies, validating data quality, and preparing periodic performance reports. Effective social performance monitoring is the foundation of credible ESG disclosure — providing the evidence base for sustainability reporting, investor engagement, and regulatory compliance, and enabling organisations to track progress against social targets and identify emerging social risks before they escalate.
