Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services Assessment — TNFD

What is a Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services Assessment — TNFD?
A Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Assessment evaluates an organisation's dependencies on and impacts to biodiversity and natural ecosystems — examining how the organisation's operations, supply chains, and financial activities interact with nature, and identifying the nature-related risks and opportunities that arise from those interactions. The assessment follows the framework of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures — TNFD — which provides the globally recognised structure for identifying, assessing, managing, and disclosing nature-related risks and opportunities.
It involves mapping the organisation's footprint against areas of biodiversity significance, assessing ecosystem service dependencies, evaluating direct and indirect biodiversity impacts, and identifying the actions needed to reduce nature-related risk and improve biodiversity performance. Nature-related risk is an emerging but rapidly growing area of investor and regulatory focus in India — driven by the TNFD framework, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and the increasing recognition that biodiversity loss poses material financial risks for businesses across agriculture, infrastructure, real estate, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors.
