Workplace Exposure Assessment

What is a Workplace Exposure Assessment?
A Workplace Exposure Assessment is a systematic process for measuring and evaluating workers' exposure to occupational health hazards — including chemical agents, dust, noise, vibration, heat, and biological agents — against established occupational exposure limits and health-based standards. The assessment involves identifying potential exposure scenarios, selecting appropriate measurement methods, conducting personal or area sampling, analysing samples in accredited
laboratories, and comparing results against applicable exposure standards — to determine whether exposures are within acceptable limits or require further control. The findings inform decisions on engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment — and provide the evidence base for health surveillance decisions and regulatory reporting requirements.
