Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) Development

Management Systems & Programs Header

What is a Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) Development?

A Safe Work Method Statement is a document that describes how a specific high-risk work activity will be carried out safely — identifying the hazards involved, the risks they present, and the control measures that will be implemented to manage those risks before work begins.

SWMS are required for high-risk construction work and are widely used across industrial, maintenance, and infrastructure operations for tasks such as working at height, confined space entry, hot work, crane operations, and electrical work. They serve as both a planning tool and a communication document — ensuring that workers, supervisors, and contractors understand the safety requirements of the task before it commences.

EGSS develops SWMS that are practical, task-specific, and aligned with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards — providing organisations with documentation that is genuinely useful on site rather than a generic compliance exercise.
