Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Review & Chemical Register Preparation

What is a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Review & Chemical Register Preparation?
A Safety Data Sheet is a standardised document that provides comprehensive information about a hazardous chemical — covering its properties, health and environmental hazards, safe handling and storage requirements, emergency response procedures, and disposal considerations. Accurate, up- to-date SDS are a fundamental requirement of chemical safety management and a regulatory obligation in most jurisdictions.
SDS review involves examining each SDS against current regulatory requirements and the GHS standard — identifying outdated, incomplete, or inaccurate information and updating or procuring revised SDS where needed.
A Chemical Register is a comprehensive inventory of all hazardous substances present at a facility — cross-referenced with their SDS, storage locations, quantities, and applicable regulatory controls.
Together, a current chemical register and accurate SDS form the foundation of an effective hazard communication and emergency response system.
