Permit to Work (PTW) System Design & Implementation

What is a Permit to Work (PTW) System Design & Implementation?
A Permit to Work system is a formal, documented procedure that controls the authorisation, planning, execution, and closure of high-risk work activities — such as hot work, confined space entry, electrical isolation, working at height, and excavation. It ensures that hazards are identified, controls are in place, and the right people have assessed and approved the work before it begins.
PTW system design involves defining the permit types required for the facility, establishing the authorisation hierarchy, designing the permit documentation, and developing the supporting procedures and training materials needed to operate the system effectively.
Implementation involves deploying the system across the facility, training all relevant personnel — including workers, supervisors, permit issuers, and area authorities — and establishing the audit and review mechanisms needed to maintain system integrity over time.
