Process Safety Management — PSM

What is a Process Safety Management — PSM?
Process Safety Management is a comprehensive framework for managing the integrity of operating systems and processes that handle hazardous substances — with the objective of preventing catastrophic incidents such as fires, explosions, and toxic releases.
PSM covers 14 elements including process hazard analysis, operating procedures, mechanical integrity, management of change, emergency planning, and incident investigation — each designed to address a specific dimension of process safety risk across the lifecycle of a hazardous operation.
It is mandatory or strongly recommended for facilities in chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and other high-hazard sectors where a loss of containment event could have catastrophic consequences for people, environment, and operations.
