Industrial Hygiene Monitoring — Noise, Illumination, Heat Stress, Dust, Fumes & Vapours

What is a Industrial Hygiene Monitoring — Noise, Illumination, Heat Stress, Dust, Fumes & Vapours?
Industrial Hygiene Monitoring involves the measurement of workplace environmental conditions and worker exposures to physical and chemical agents — to determine whether exposure levels are within acceptable limits and whether existing controls are effective.
Parameters commonly monitored include noise levels and worker noise exposure, illumination levels in work areas, heat stress indices such as Wet Bulb Globe Temperature, airborne dust concentrations, and the levels of chemical fumes and vapours in the breathing zone of workers. Each parameter is measured using calibrated instruments and standardised sampling methods — with results compared against applicable occupational exposure limits and standards.
The findings provide the evidence base for control decisions, health surveillance requirements, personal protective equipment selection, and regulatory reporting — giving organisations a quantified, defensible understanding of the health hazards their workers face.
