Construction Safety Management System (CSMS)

What is a Construction Safety Management System (CSMS)?
A Construction Safety Management System is a project-specific safety framework designed to manage the unique and dynamic hazards of construction environments — where risks change daily, multiple contractors work simultaneously, and the consequences of safety failures can be severe.
A CSMS establishes the safety governance structure for a construction project — covering contractor safety management, permit to work systems, induction and training requirements, incident reporting, emergency response, and site safety monitoring — aligned with applicable Indian statutory requirements and international frameworks such as IFC Performance Standards where required.
It is developed at the project outset and implemented throughout the construction lifecycle — providing the project owner, main contractor, and subcontractors with a clear, documented framework for managing safety on site.
