Chemical Safety Audit

Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene Header

What is a Chemical Safety Audit?

A Chemical Safety Audit is an independent evaluation of an organisation's management of hazardous chemicals — examining how chemicals are stored, handled, labelled, transported, and disposed of, and whether the controls in place are adequate to protect workers, the environment, and the surrounding community.

The audit covers chemical inventory management, Safety Data Sheet availability and accuracy, hazard communication and labelling, storage segregation and containment, spill response arrangements, waste chemical disposal, and compliance with applicable chemical safety regulations.

It is particularly relevant for manufacturing, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, laboratories, and any facility that handles significant quantities of hazardous substances — providing management with an objective assessment of chemical safety performance and compliance status.
