Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) Assessment

What is a Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) Assessment?
Behavioural Based Safety is an approach to workplace safety that focuses on identifying, understanding, and changing the at-risk behaviours that contribute to accidents and incidents. A BBS Assessment evaluates the current state of safety behaviour across an organisation — examining how workers interact with hazards, how safety culture influences behaviour, and where behavioural interventions are most needed.
The assessment uses structured observation, workforce engagement, and data analysis to identify patterns of at-risk behaviour — providing management with a clear picture of the human factors that are increasing safety risk in the workplace.
The findings inform the design of targeted BBS programmes — observation systems, feedback mechanisms, and behaviour change interventions — that complement existing technical safety controls and build a stronger, more sustainable safety culture.
