The Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirement has been made mandatory by the Government of India for all Producers, Importers and Brand Owners (PIBOs) in India. Registration for EPR is mandatory for:
- PIBOs of plastic packaging and plastic waste processors under section 13 of Plastic Waste (Management) Rules, 2016, as amended in 2022.
- Manufacturers, producers and refurbisher/recycler of electrical or electronic equipments under rule 4 of E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022.
- Producers and recyclers/refurbishers of batteries under section 4 and 8 of Batteries Waste (Management) Rules, 2022.
